Northwest Georgia Specialty Care Clinic

The Northwest Georgia Specialty Care Clinic, discreetly located in downtown Rome, is funded by a federal Ryan White grant.  We provide services to people with HIV/AIDS.  A wide variety of services, based on a sliding-fee scale, is available.  We bill Medicaid and Medicare for services if you have these benefits, and you must present your card at each visit.

Anyone with a confirmed diagnosis of HIV infection is eligible for some or all services regardless of ability to pay.  The specific services for which you qualifiy are determined your income and need.

We serve people from Bartow, Catoosa, Chattooga, Dade, Floyd, Gordon, Haralson, Paulding, Polk and Walker counties.

      Services Available:

Testing and Counseling: Prior to receiving services, you must provide proof of HIV infection.  We then counsel you about HIV infection.  HIV counseling and testing is available at all county health departments.

Laboratory Monitoring: We monitor your health through a variety of laboratory tests, including CD4 counts and viral loads.

Screening and Immunizations: All recommended immunizations (hepatitis, pneumonia, influenza, etc.) are available through the clinic. We screen you for tuberculosis, and age-specific screenings are also completed.

Medical Consultation: You can get primary care as well as specialized care for HIV.  Our staff receive on-going training in the HIV treatment insuring you high quality healthcare.  In addition to our nursing staff, an infectious disease doctor is available by appointment.  You can receive regular medical care, including yearly physicals, pap smears and care for opportunistic infections, along with careful monitoring of the progression of HIV infection.  A registered dietician is also on staff to help you with diet and nutritional issues related to HIV.

Medications: If you don't have prescription drug insurance coverage, we can help you get certain HIV medications from a variety of sources at minimal or no cost. Clients may also obtain some medications for conditions unrelated to HIV.

Dental services: We can refer needy clients for limited dental services with a contracted agency.

Case management: If you qualify, we can provide you with comprehensive case management, including help with food, utilities, transportation, rent and other services.  We make referrals for some services, including transitional housing and substance abuse treatment.  We can help you apply for social security disability and other social services.  If you've lost your insurance coverage, we can help you continue your coverage under COBRA.  Help paying your COBRA premiums may also be available.

After-hours call:  We're able to assist you with medical needs that may arise outside of normal office hours.  You can reach our on-call nurse by calling the clinic at 706-295-6701 or 1-877-531-CARE.  The answering machine will give you the on-call nurse's beeper number.
