Why does my child’s center need a child care health consultant?
- Chronic diseases are more prevalent in young children in recent years. Nationwide an increase in asthma and type II diabetes has been seen in young children. Not all child care centers and staff are trained to assist with needs that may arise due to your child’s chronic condition.
- Children get sick and spread germs. In a recent study, Children ages 3-5 in child care facilities were more likely to have a nightly cough and nasal symptoms due to the common cold than children at home. Among children under the age of three who were treated at a health clinic for acute diarrhea, the risk of infection was much greater for children in child care than children at home. Child care providers wish to reduce these occurrences and provide the best care possible.
- Child care providers often wear many hats: educator, caregiver, parental advisor, and more. They are eager for the support and resources needed to ensure that your child is being cared for in a healthy and safe environment.
Child care health consultants are experienced public health nurses who have the special training needed to tackle these issues. Healthy Child Care ETC consultants can definitely help your child’s center become a healthier safer place.
