We are committed to protecting and improving the health of the more than half million residents of the 10-county Northwest Georgia Public Health district. Through a variety of programs, community partnerships and services, we oversee environmental health, disease control and community and family health. We also plan and work with community partners to strengthen Northwest Georgia's emergency-preparedness-and response-capabilities.

Georgia Department of Public Health Becomes Stand-Alone State Agency
Effective July 1, 2011, the Division of Public Health will become a stand-alone agency and will no longer exist as a division within the Georgia Department of Community Health (DCH). A new state agency, the Georgia Department of Public Health, is now created and all of the functions and program areas associated with public health are transferred to the new agency.
