The Environmental Health Department seeks to protect the public and the environment by providing permits and inspections in several environmental health related fields. Permits issued by the environmental health department include food service, swimming pool, on-site waste management system (septic tank), and tourist court permits. Each field has mandated Rules and Regulations approved by the State of Georgia for operation and/or installation of the service in question. The issuing of permits and the inspection process provides consistency across the field. Also, experience through the years has proven that adequate supervision, and inspections help to ensure compliance to the Rules and Regulations. As a reminder, the Rules and Regulations were developed to provide a "safe environment" in which to live. With this thought in mind, the following pages were developed to provide more detail as to what this office accomplishes and why what we do is so important to your health.
